FIELD: inorganic chemistry, more particularly preparation of titanium dioxide by vapor- phase oxidation of halides. SUBSTANCE: natural gas and air are burned out in furnace. Water is added to combustion products in amount of up to 20% exceeding stoichiometric amount required to react with titanium tetrachloride vapors. Aqueous gas mixture is fed at rate of 400-1500 cubic m/h perpendicular to movement of titanium tetrachloride vapors. Titanium tetrachloride to aqueous gas mixture ratios is 1:(2-4). Combustion and thermohydrolysis processes are carried out at vacuum gauge pressure. EFFECT: improved coloring properties of titanium dioxide. 3 cl
