FIELD: radio engineering means of passive location, determination of distance to sources of pulse electromagnetic radiation, measurement of distance to source of lightning discharges at distances 300-1500 km in meteorology and civil aviation. SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic signal of lighting discharge ( atmospherics ) is received by rod aerial, is amplified, is filtered in wide frequency band, is delayed in time, is stored and processed in parallel in n channels. Each processing channel calculates datum beam leading to minimal error of position between initial atmospherics and sum of two datum beams time interval between which is known. Relation of amplitudes is determined by form of atmospherics. Distance to which channel with minimal error of position is tuned is assumed as distance to lightning discharge. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and reduced time of measurement of distance to lightning discharge. 4 dwg
