FIELD: radio engineering means of passive detection and ranging of sources of pulse electromagnetic radiation. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to measure location of thunderstorms at ranges 300-2000 km is intended for meteorology and civil aviation to secure flight safety. Electromagnetic signal of thunderstorm ( atmospherics ) is received by vertical electric antenna and two orthogonal horizontal magnetic antennas, azimuthal angle to source is found. In addition ordinary and extraordinary components of horizontal magnetic field are determined which are checked for their correspondence to N gradations of range. In each of them many-pronged signal corresponding to this gradation of range is formed from extraordinary component of magnetic field. Range of channel tuning at which form of received signal is closest to form of signal corresponding to ordinary component of magnetic field is assumed to be range to thunderstorm.
