FIELD: radio engineering, range finding of sources of electromagnetic radiation, meteorology and civil aviation for timely location of thunderstorms. SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic signal of lightning discharge- atmospherics is received by rod antenna, amplified, filtered in wide band of frequencies and is tested for correspondence to each of N gradations of range Ln ( n=1-N ) up to lightning discharge. Output data of tests are compared by value and range corresponding to maximum output signal is assumed to be range to lightning discharge. EFFECT: increased range of action and accuracy of single-point range- finding of sources of atmospherics. 6 dwg
