FIELD: radio engineering aids of passive location of electromagnetic radiation sources, in particular, methods of single-point range finding of lightning discharges " cloud-to- ground ", meteorology and civil aviation for timely range finding of thunderstorm activities at distance 300-1500 km. SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic signal of lightning discharge - atmospherics is received by vertical electric rod antenna, is amplified, filtered within wide band of frequencies and is subjected to nonlinear time compression. Compression is set the larger the farther is time moment from start of atmospherics. Signal received in this case is checked for its correspondence to each of range gradations established in advance $$$ to lightning discharge. With this in mind this signal is processed in parallel, obtained output signals are intercompared by value and range corresponding to maximum output signal is assumed to be range to lightning discharge. EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurement of range to lightning discharge. 4 dwg
