FIELD: electrical engineering. SUBSTANCE: gas-filled isolator has mobile and immobile contacts confined in metal case. Immobile contact is made of two parts electrically interconnected by resistor located either outside or inside mobile contact. One of parts of immobile contact is fixed by means of insulator. Mobile contact can be replaced by two contacts, one shunting resistor only and the other - gas gap of isolator. Value of resistance of resistor is chosen such that front of pulse of overvoltage is equal or greater than front of standard lightning pulse. EFFECT: enhanced operational reliability and efficiency of gas-filled isolator. 4 c, 3 dwg
