FIELD: machining of difficult-to-work non-conductive materials such as structural ceramics; may be used for high- precision machining of ceramic articles in mechanical engineering and electronics. SUBSTANCE: abrasive additive is introduced into transparent working fluid where article to be machined is placed, and optical radiation is focused on it. Abrasive material must have refractive index close to that of working fluid. According to another version of the method, abrasive additive is introduced directly into machining zone, while working fluid is passed by flow along the article. EFFECT: higher machining speeds. 2 cl, 2 dwg
