FIELD: pyrotechnic installations. SUBSTANCE: the methods consists in employment of an igniter used to impact the necessary heat pulse to the charge and electrical current for initiation of fire. The igniter is made of smoke powder, whose grains a coated with a thin layer of current-conducting compound, for instance, aluminium powder. An electric are is used for initiation of fire. The device realizing the method has body 1 with blast chamber 3, unit 4 used to introduce the charge into the chamber, electric power source and a means for initiation of fire. Chamber 3 accommodates bulk powder charge 7. Dielectric insert 9 with a taper recess for igniter 8 is located in the center of the chamber lower part. Bare leads of electrodes 10 connected to the power source are positioned on the insert bottom. When voltage is applied to the electrodes, a short circuit occurs between the electrode leads due to the current-conducting coating, with a subsequent generation of an electric arc, ignition of the igniter and of the main charge.
