FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, is intended for individual or group use be people working in field condition or people consuming water from surface sources in settlements devoid of water- treating and water-supply systems. Invention is distinguished by developing tabletted or powdered chemical preparation for disinfecting, clarifying, and discoloring water, which preparation contains lesser number of components and is less toxic as compared to known preparation, does not require controlling medium pH, and is applicable over wide temperature range. Solid composition of invention in the form of single dozed package for treating relatively small, preliminarily estimated amounts of water contains chlorine-containing disinfectant - sodium dichloroisocyanurate (5-25 weight parts) and coagulant - aluminum poluhydroxochloride with general formula [Alx(OH)yCl3x-y]n (50- 175 weight parts). Composition may also be supplemented by sodium chloride and sodium bicarbonate in quantities 25-100 and 20-100 weight parts , respectively.
