FIELD: oil and gas production industry. SUBSTANCE: this relates to equipment used in subsurface repair of oil and gas wells and is intended for catching string of pump-compressor pipes and holding them suspended during round-trip operations. Pipe elevator has body which is pivotally connected with shackle, segment-type grip with control handle, and lock with supporting post. End face of lock and working face of supporting post have serrated surfaces which together create ratchet mechanism. Length of working face of supporting post is equal to or larger than value of working stroke of lock. End face of lock is kept in permanent contact with working face of post over entire length of working stroke, except handle position "Closed". Performance reliability of pipe elevator is achieved mainly due to preventing uncontrolled release of lock. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 dwg
