METHOD OF CONVERSION OF LINEAR POLARIZATION THROUGH SPECIFIED ANGLE AND GEAR FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2108564 C1

FIELD: optico-mechanical instrumentation, aids testing polarimeters-saccharimeters. SUBSTANCE: plane-parallel plate made from isotropic material with known refractive index n which is initially inclined through angle Δα with falling beam light is used for conversion of linear polarization through specified angle ψ. It is fixed in position in which readings of polarimeter are equal to zero. Then plate is turned about optical axis through angle π/4 or -π/4 and value Δα is found by formula , where β = arcsin(n-1•sinψ). Plate is fixed in mount in the form cylinder at angle ψ with axis of cylinder, mount is anchored in case having stopper and checks inscribed in figure in the form of trihedral prism which parallel axis matches axis of cylinder of mount and is equally distant from all faces of prism. Two faces of prism make right angle and correspondingly angles -π/4 и +π/4 with third face of prism. EFFECT: improved testing reliability. 2 cl, 6 dwg
