METHOD FOR PREPARING LOW MOLECULAR CIS-1,4-POLYBUTADIENE Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: chemical industry, more particularly preparation of low molecular cis-1,4-polybutadiene. SUBSTANCE: resulting polymer is used for plasticizing elastomers in paint industry and for manufacturing protective coatings. Process is carried out at 10-40 C by adding to toluene butadiene-1,3 in amount of 10-40 wt %, naphtenate, acetyl acetonate, nickel octoate or nickel salt of C₁₀-C₁₂ fatty acids at content of (0,03 - 1,0)•10^-3 in the blend, alkyl aluminium chloride of formula R₃Al₂Cl₃ wherein R is hydrocarbon radical such as ethyl or isobutyl at molar ratio of aluminium to nickel from 8:1 to 80:1 and electrochonor compound selected from group consisting of hexamethyl disilazane, hexamethylene diamine, N-methyl-α-pyrrolidone, N- isopropyl-N′-phenyl -n- phenylene diamine in amount of (0,03 - 1,0)•10^-3 mole/l of blend. In this case, 40-60% of total amount is added to toluene prior to and after other components, and the remaining part (50-70%) is for monomer conversion. The claimed method makes is possible to obtain polymer having reduced content of cross linked polybutadiene (gel) and greater homogeneity of the final products.
