FIELD: road building; evaluation of condition of motor roads and airfields. SUBSTANCE: in proposed method constant measurement of vertical acceleration is carried out during movement of automobile by means of accelerometer. Height of accelerometer above coating surface is constantly measured by means of noncontact height gauge installed near the accelerometer on sprung part of automobile. Output signals of accelerometer and height gauge are converted in electronic unit into signal proportional to height or speed of change of height of vertical profile of coating over level surface. EFFECT: improved accuracy of measurement, enlarged range of wavelengths of measured surface irregularities without limiting automobile driving speed.
