FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: mixture of enantiomeric D- and L-treo-2-amino-3-hydroxy-3-phenyl propionic acids or derivatives thereof or salts thereof are affected by stereoisomeric enrichment. Method is carried out contacting mixture with D-treonine aldolase. D- and L-treo-2-amino-3-hydroxy-3-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl) propionic acid is treated with D-treonine aldolase while L-treo-2-amino-3-hydroxy-3-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)pronionic acid is prepared at high yield and at high selectivity.
