FIELD: metal-working industry; intensifying processes in liquid metals. SUBSTANCE: electricity-conducting melts are mixed up in mixers or furnaces by exposing them to simultaneous action of traveling electromagnetic field and one or more pulsating magnetic fields located in vicinity of traveling field which are active throughout entire height of melt column on mixer side. Fields acting on melt set the latter in unidirectional or alternating opposing motion throughout entire mixing time in plane parallel to mixer or furnace side. Melt may be exposed to electromagnetic fields in corner portion of mixer or furnace. Motion path of electricity-conducting melt can be varies in the course of mixing by varying intensity of pulsating electromagnetic fields at input and output of traveling field.
