FIELD: sorbents. SUBSTANCE: carbon-containing raw material with fineness +8-80 mm is carbonized at 600-950 C and treated by activating gas-vapor mixture in two steps: preliminary low-temperature activation and high-temperature activation. Carbonization product coming into the second step (750-900 C) is saturated by water. For instance brawn coals can be used as starting material. Sorbents obtained are fit to be used in conventional sorption-involving processes. EFFECT: increased strength and reduced capacity of polluting water by soluble salts. 8 cl, 2 tbl
