FIELD: catalyst production. SUBSTANCE: catalyst is composed of copper compound (3.5-5.5 wt %) on a metal- containing alumina carrier. The latter constitutes a solid solution of Me2+ and/or Me3+ metal ions in aluminum oxide at Al3+/Me2+ and/or Al3+/Me3+ ratio ranging from 200:1 to 20:1. As Me2+ and/or Me3+ following ions are used: Ce3+, Ca3+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Cu2+,, and, as copper compounds, water-soluble ones. Catalyst is prepared by applying copper compound onto above-indicated solid solution involving spraying of copper compound solution and heat treatment under conditions providing complete crystallization of the active component for less than 30 min. EFFECT: increased catalyst activity resulting in increased conversion into dichloroethane. 5 cl, 1 tbl
