METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING GOITER AND THYROID GLAND HYPOPLASIA IN CHILDREN Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

Abstract RU 2116752 C1

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves applying ultrasonic examination to determine thyroid volume and compare it to individual standard reference value calculated from anthropometric evidence with following goiter diagnosis. One of anthropometric values is used. Thorax circumference is measured in 4-6 years old children. Leg length is measured in 7-9 years old children. When no pubertate being detected, leg length is measured in 10-15 years old children. Body mass is measured, when pubertate being available. Upper and lower norm boundary is calculated from formula NTV=AI x P - I, where NTV is the normal thyroid volume, AI is the anthropometric index value, P is the regression coefficient, I is the empiric index. Then the thyroid volume is compared to the calculated indices. Its value being greater than the upper norm value, goiter case is diagnosed. Its value being less than the lower norm value, thyroid gland hypoplasia case is diagnosed. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy of diagnosis; improved treatment course selection.
