FIELD: petrochemical industry, particularly, simultaneous preparation of propylene and styrene oxide. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes process of liquid-phase oxidation of ethyl benzene to ethyl benzene hydroperoxide at elevated temperature with atmospheric oxygen in the presence of catalyst and initiating additive. The catalyst and initiating additive include condensed part of spent air stream from stage of oxidation of ethyl benzene, said part being treated with sodium hydroxide and/or the stream resulting from washing and/or neutralization of reaction products from acid impurities is used. Additive is used in amount of 0.0000-0.003 wt % per sodium from reaction mixture. EFFECT: higher conversion of ethyl benzene and lower amount of catalyst. 2 cl, 7 ex
