FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: this relates to construction of industrial and civic buildings and also to erection of transport structures in the form of bridge-type objects. Strengthening of beam is needed for increasing load-bearing capacity of structure by way of creating compression and increasing degree of compression together with retaining effect of prestressing. Essence of strengthening consists in structural system which contains rigid reinforcing member. Located in space of this member is flexible reinforcement which by its ends is secured in lateral fastening disks seated in rigid reinforcing member. Pivotally attached to external surface of reinforcing member by their one ends are inclined tie-rods. Other ends of tie-rods converging in unit are connected to anchoring device which is installed on beam section close to supports. Amount of flexible reinforcement inside space of rigid reinforcing member can vary depending on extension of span to be bridged and character of applying external load. Aforesaid arrangement allows for varying rigidity of combination reinforcement together with protection of prestressed reinforcement from corrosion and mechanical damage.
