FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises silicon dioxide and at least one component selected from aluminium oxide and aluminium phosphate comprises mixing alcohol, water, silicon alcoholate and acid under conditions as to avoid gel formation and silicon dioxide deposition, adding to mixture acid solution of aluminium compound and/or solution of phosphate ion source, adding gel forming agent thereto, collecting gel which is washed with water and then organic liquid, subsequently drying gel by spraying to form powder, and calcining powder. Polymerization of olefins is carried out in the presence of catalyst comprising chromium supported carrier as defined above. The claimed method makes it possible to produce homogeneous and amorphous structure carrier which is resistant to crystallization and has increased pore volume and greater specific surface.
