FIELD: chemical chemistry. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes carrier for catalysts which comprises two components selected from silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide and aluminium phosphate and has specific surface (SS) from 100 to 800 square m/g, crystallization temperature of higher or equal to 700 C, pore volume (PV) from 1.5 to 4 cubic m/g, specific surface (SS) and pore volume (PV) corresponding to relationship: SS (PV*564-358). Present invention also describes preparation of said carrier. The claimed carrier comprises mixing alcohol, water, silicon alcoholate and acid under such conditions so as to avoid gel formation or silicon dioxide deposition, adding to mixture solution of aluminium compound and/or phosphate ion source, adding gel forming agent thereto, collecting gel which is washed with water and then with organic liquid, drying gel to form powder and calcining said powder. Polymerization of olefins is carried out in the presence of chrome supported carrier as defined above. The claimed catalyst has higher catalyst activity, short induction period and good sensitivity to hydrogen. The claimed catalyst makes it possible to produce olefins having molecular weight distributions between average wide and very wide and low content of oligomers. EFFECT: improved properties of the carrier and more efficient preparation method. 29 cl, 6 ex, 1 dwg, 4 tbl
