FIELD: electronic engineering. SUBSTANCE: shaft position converter has moving system consisting of code dial secured rigidly on shaft and information reading system including radiation sources, condenser and photoreceiving device positioned successively. Converter also includes electronic unit in form of unit of analog-to-digital processing and control, input of which is connected to outputs of photoreceiving device. One code path with dashes is applied on code dial of converter. Angular distance between adjacent dashes is determined by dependence ϕ(n-1),n= ϕ0,1+γ•(n-1),, where ϕ0,1- is angular distance between zero and first dashes; γ is constant angular value which exceeds error of determination of angle between adjacent dashes; n=1, 2, 3... is ordinal number of dashes applied on dial, with exception of zero dash. In this case [(ϕ0,1+ϕ(n-1),n)/2]•n≤2π. Light-sensitive zone of photoreceiving device in form of multi-element picture receiver is arranged in plane parallel to code dial surface. Converter provides for measurement of angles of turn and angular position of object with high resolution (not worse than 3" at R= 55 mm) and ensures data recovery in every interrogation cycle.
