FIELD: power engineering and transport. SUBSTANCE: each cylinder of internal combustion engine is placed in communication with source of air and fuel in form of compressed gas. Air in cylinder is compressed during compression stroke which ends directly before fuel intake, and working stroke from ignition of fuel mixture, thus formed. Fuel can be delivered into cylinder through device combining functions of intake and igniter. Conventional diesel engine or gasoline engine can be converted by installing this device in nozzle seat of conventional diesel engine or spark plug seat conventional gasoline engine. Methane or other natural gas can be used as compressed gaseous fuel.
