INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND OIL LEVEL GAUGE Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines; base parts. SUBSTANCE: oil sump secured on cylinder block- and-crankcase unit is thin-sheet part including bottom and connecting members. Sump accommodates baffle, oil intake and oil level gauge rod. Baffle is made in form of perforated case electrically insulated and mounted with clearance on inner surface of sump with minimum contact with above indicated surface. Engine has electric heater in form of at least part of case structure made of high-resistance material and placed between oil intake and sump bottom. Case of electric heater has electric contact with wall of sump and with end face of rod of oil level gauge connected through thermal switch to power source. Oil level gauge plays the part of heated oil temperature controlled electrode. EFFECT: reduced noise, enhanced starting characteristics of engine with provision of effective heat removal from walls of sump to ambient medium, enhanced operation of crankcase ventilation system and simplified design. 7 cl, 8 dwg
