FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: oil sump is secured on cylinder block-and-crankcase unit below the axis of engine crankshaft and is made in form of solid thin-sheet member consisting of bottom and connecting parts between which baffle plate and noise damping member are arranged. Noise damping member is freely fitted in oil filled space with clearance relative to inner walls of sump. Noise damping member is made partially in form of open box. Cellular structure noise damping member is made of foamed porous alloy of metals, for instance, aluminium or titanium. Structure can be open or closed cellular. In the latter case space of cells can be evacuated. Proposed sump is designed for engines of passenger cars. EFFECT: reduced noise from engine lower part. 7 cl, 4 dwg
