FIELD: INFECTIVE DISEASES. SUBSTANCE: concentration of myoglobin is determined in blood serum and, when it lies within a range of 256 to 511 ng/ml, development of carditis in diphtheria sufferers is diagnosed, and, when myoglobin concentration is above 512 ng/ml, carditis is stated. In addition, at 512 to 1023 ng/ml myoglobin concentrations, damage of myocardium is regarded as feeble, at 1024-2047 ng/ml, as medium severity, and at 2048 ng/ml and higher, as severe.
