FIELD: mechanical engineering; spark ignition engines. SUBSTANCE: hydrogen is delivered in engine operating on hydrocarbon fuel at end of compression stroke to zone of spark plug electrodes. Delivery of hydrogen is effected in pulse timed with spark discharge at engine load not exceeding 2/3 rds of maximum load. Ratio of mass of delivered hydrogen to mass of fuel does not exceed 0.001 at load equal to 2/3 rds of maximum load and does not exceed 0.015 at idling. This provides high intercyclic stability of combustion process, leaning of mixture within indicated load range and cutting down effective specific fuel consumption. EFFECT: improved performance characteristics of engine by decreasing consumption of fuel. 3 dwg
