FIELD: railway transport; maintenance and repair of permanent way. SUBSTANCE: tie tamper designed for simultaneously tamping of large number of ties consists of machine frame resting on running bogies, two tie tamping sets made for tamping at least two ties at a time and arranged in tandem in longitudinal direction of machine, raising and lining set and base system for rail track position adjustment. Both longitudinally adjacent tie tamping of both tie tamping sets are arranged at a distance from one another equal to distance a between ties. Tie tamper has tie tamping machine with tie tamping sets for simultaneously tamping several ties and addition tie tamping machine with tie tamping set for tamping one tie. Additional machine is moved independently by its drive. In process of tie tamping operation, tamping of at least five ties located one after the other is carried out during first stage of operation, with simultaneous adjustment of position of rail track in plan and in vertical, and simultaneously tamping of group of ties located before one central tie and group of ties behind central tie is carried out. During second stage of operation tamping of central tie missed during first stage of operation is done. EFFECT: provision of accurate position of rail track at high capacity of tie tamper. 22 cl, 7 dwg
