FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method allows determination of linear motion speed of bodies relative to standing electromagnetic wave in displacement which are less than quarter of electromagnetic wave length. Method consists in creation of standing electromagnetic wave by two trains of coherent electromagnetic waves polarized in one plane and directed opposite to each other along one straight line. When body moves along standing wave maximum antinode intensity of created standing wave is measured. Time is measured upon its expiration certain intensity of standing wave is obtained which is also measured. Speed sought for is determined by obtained values of intensity, time and wave length.
