FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: in process of direct production of liquid metal by reduction smelting of ore in converter for production of metals and metal alloys, in particular, iron and iron-containing alloys from metal oxides and ores, carry-over of liquid and solid-state particles with effluent gases from converter is reduced to minimum due to rotation gases, oxidizing gases and trapped liquid and solid-state particles in the space which is located above molten metal round the vertical axis of converter. Due to this, liquid and solid-state particles move to external side in direction of converter wall. The rotary motion may be initiated by blowing-in of some or all oxidizing gases through lances located above the face of melt with inclination to vertical plane through converter vertical axis. Converter may have in fact rotary symmetrical shape at least in the space above the molten metal. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 12 cl, 1 dwg
