FIELD: ophthalmology. SUBSTANCE: level of astigmatism of optical system of myopic eyes is first evaluated. Development of peripheral chorioretinal dystrophy is predicted when that level exceeds 0.5 D. Frequency of manifestations of peripheral chorioretinal dystrophies increases according to formula: P=0.89 [1-e-1,15D]100% where P is probability of disease in myopic eye and D astigmatism level expressed in dioptres.
