FIELD: solid fuels technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of thermally processing petroliferous shales to extend source of raw materials for production of ichthyol and simultaneously thiophene concentrate. High- sulfur shale with particle size up to 25 mm is dried with smoke fumes and heated by solid heat carrier to form vapor-gas mixture and coke-ash residue. The latter is burned to form ashes, which are returned into heating stage, and smoke fumes that are utilized in drying stage. Vapor-gas mixture is freed from solid particles and then, in cooling stage, from heavy tar fraction with boiling temperature above 350 C. Remaining part of vapor-gas mixture is rectified to run off 175-250 and 250-350 C fractions that are further combined, treated to remove phenols and pyridine compounds, sulfonated, and neutralized, after which ichthyol is isolated. Low-boiling remains of vapor-gas mixture are cooled and separated into semicoking gas, pyroligenous liquor, and gasoline fraction boiling away below 175 C. The latter is rectified to give thiophene concentrate, while heavy tar fraction cooled to 180-80 C is used as reflux agent.
