FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: bisnoralcohol (I): is converted to bisnoraldehyde (II): which is well known intermediate compound in synthesis of progesterone. Method comprises oxidizing bisnoralcohol I with sodium hypochlorite in the presence of catalytic amount of 4- substituted 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl derivative in the presence of sodium bicarbonate and potassium bromide at pH of 8.5-10.5 at temperatures from -10 C to 15 C using stoichiometric amount of sodium hypochlorite. EFFECT: highly selective and continuous process. 17 cl, 1 dwg, 6 ex
