FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: according to proposed method flame of hot exhaust gases of fuel-air mixture not completely combusted and getting out of engine combustion chamber in to exhaust manifold and fuel-air mixture in intake manifold are directly treated by electric field. Device has electric field source adjustable in amplitude and frequency, electrodes made in form of modified spark plugs, and functional unit for choosing optimum operating conditions of electric field source. The source builds electric field of strength not less than 1 kV/cm, field parameters being adjusted to provide the best degree of cleaning of internal combustion engine exhaust gases.
