FIELD: transport engineering; rod and air vehicles. SUBSTANCE: piston internal combustion engine has cylinder block, cylinder cover with combustion chambers in which nozzles are fitted, slider-crank mechanism including crankshaft, connecting rods and pistons connected through connecting rods with crankpins of crankshaft. Engine is furnished with driven compressor installed on front end of crankshaft, intake manifold and exhaust manifold. Two cylinders arranged close to each other in cylinder block communicate through combustion chamber common for pair of cylinders playing different functions in timing process: one cylinder serves and intake cylinder and is provided with slot type intake opening, other cylinder serves as exhaust cylinder and is provided with slot type exhaust opening. Slot openings are arranged higher than piston crowns when pistons are in bottom, dead center in cylinders, and synchronous movement of pistons in provided owing to their connection by connecting rods with crankpins of crankshaft made coaxially under communicating cylinders which provides uniflow slot scavenging of two cylinders simultaneously through their common combustion chamber. EFFECT: reduced losses of working medium, simplified timing gear, increased reliability, reduced overall dimensions, increased service life and enhanced economy of engine. 2 cl, 1 dwg
