FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy, particularly, methods of separation of metallurgical melts into metallic and nonmetallic components. SUBSTANCE: method includes supply of melt to channel and supply of electric current to melt, separation of melt into metallic and nonmetallic components under the effect of electromagnetic forces resulting from interaction of electric current with own magnetic field. In this case, magnetic flux of own magnetic field of electric current in melt is collinearized and directed square to vector of electric current; and outside of melt, magnetic flux is amplified by its introduction into magnetic circuit. The method is embodied with device provided with channel for melt and system supplying electric current to melt. It is provided additionally with U-shaped magnetic circuit whose recess accommodates channel rectangular in cross-section and provided with separating partition and two discharge outlet pipes at outlet of separation zone. EFFECT: higher degree of separation of metallurgical melts into metallic and nonmetallic components. 2 cl, 6 dwg
