FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; production of secondary metals by separation of metallurgical melts. SUBSTANCE: proposed method consists in separation of metal, oxide and salt components of melts in crossed electrical and permanent magnetic fields; separation is performed at free fall of melt jet under action of volume electromagnetic force whose magnitude is found from the following formula: Fem = jB > 1,5σ < τ(gR3)0,5. Device proposed for realization of this method includes DC source with electrodes for supply of current to melt, electromagnet, melt supply passage, zone of separation of melt into components located between poles of permanent magnetic field, branch pipes for draining products into receiving reservoirs; device is additionally provided with salt components accumulating passage located below separation zone and provided with branch pipe fitted on passage and connected to DC source; melt supply passage is mounted above melt separation zone and is provided with branch pipe connected with DC source.
