FIELD: casting of magnesium and its alloys with magnetic-hydrodynamic pump. SUBSTANCE: method includes preliminary heating by current of metal path and active zone of pump; supply of liquid magnesium to active zone; beginning of metal discharge with simultaneous passing of current through metal. Current density is determined by formula given in the invention description. With given current density, turbulence of metal flow is suppressed and active separation of nonconducting impurities is realized. EFFECT: reduced amount of impurities in magnesium ingots. 1 tbl
