FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method allows determination of gas leakage amount by filling of measured volume V including sealed flange connection with gas under definite pressure P with subsequent dynamic opening of flange connection by definite value at rate of 1-3 m/s. Method includes recording of pressure value variation in measured volume and relative shift of flanges in process of joint opening and subsequent recovery time of initial form of sealing elastic element, subsequent recalculation by known formulas proceeding from P, V and recorded data. Method allows determination of actual leakage values depending on value of volume to be sealed and pressure in it, on joint opening rate and characteristics of sealing elements used.
