FIELD: nondestructive testing of metal and alloys. SUBSTANCE: invention id related to thermoelectric methods of determination of chemical composition and structure, to quality inspection of chemical and heat machining and can be used in metallurgical, metal-working and machine making industries to inspect quality of production. Device includes cold and hot electrodes, relay, variable resistor, transformer, time relay placed in circuit forming temperature gradient, thermocouple formed by spring-loaded hot electrode and foil ring located right in zone of contact of hot electrode with tested article and winding put on case of device and fed with alternating current. Accuracy and stability of test of metals and alloys rises thanks to sufficiently accurate test of temperature in zone of contact of electrode and article, to measurement of thermoelectric sensitivity of material without supply of voltage to measurement circuit and provision for constant effort of pressing of electrode against article.
