FIELD: tobacco industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves exposing tobacco to radiation, in particular, acoustic electromagnetic waves with wave length of 1 micron to 1 km and frequency of from 3.105 to 3.1014 Hz. Waves are modulated while passing through excited standard sample to provide transfer of information on properties of this sample to tobacco under treatment at any process stage. Such method allows unpleasant odors and scents of tobacco to be eliminated and wanted aroma and flavour to be imparted, tobacco strength to be changed and smoking qualities to be improved. EFFECT: simplified method and improved quality of tobacco. 1 ex
