FIELD: biotechnology and ecology. SUBSTANCE: method comprises removing some metals from water by reaction with phosphates resulting from fermentative cleavage of polyphosphate accumulated by one or more microorganisms which are capable of accumulating polyphosphate. Metals being removed include cadmium, lead, uranium, and lanthanum. Bacteria of Acinetobacter genus are used. Microorganisms are cultivated in aerobic conditions. When conditions on anaerobic microorganisms change, accumulated polyphosphate is used. The resulting phosphate ions, while in reaction with metal ions, cause precipitation of metal phosphates. EFFECT: simplified technology of water purification and greater technological safety of process. 7 cl, 15 dwg, 6 tbl
