FIELD: construction engineering. SUBSTANCE: method relates to reducing effect of flooding caused due to freshet, intensive atmospheric precipitation or rise of air temperature in mountainous regions. Method is preferably used in large rivers mainly navigable and falling into sea. According to method, water mass is subjected to explosions directed downstream of river along water flow. Explosions are made in part of river close to bottom in lower flow of river. Application of aforesaid method allows for increasing speed of water mass movement and also of water flow rate and consequently preventing spreading of water mass beyond river banks.
