FIELD: hydraulic engineering, measure preventing flood. SUBSTANCE: technique includes erection of water guarding barrier and measures to break ice cover on river. Water guarding barrier is constructed in the form ice embankment frozen right on ice cover of river near bank subjected to flooding with the height exceeding level of anticipated water rise and going to banks with its ends. Cutting of deep notch along line of maximum bending moment with the use of sharp ice cutter at period of its maximum stress breaks ice cover on river.
