FIELD: hydraulic engineering. SUBSTANCE: method is used for reducing or eliminating effect of flooding which is caused by intensive thawing of snow. For realization of method, installed across river water stream is removable cofferdam. Upper edge of cofferdam is located not below water surface level. Lower edge of cofferdam is hermetically attached to river bottom. On completion of that work, water mass of river is pumped out downstream of river so as to create difference between water levels at both sides of cofferdam. This difference in water levels is maintained during entire period of emergency situation. Application of aforesaid method of reducing flooding effect is most prominent for not limiting total mass of water and period of its oncoming. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl, 2 dwg
