FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: treatment of cams is performed by using first and second grinding wheels for preliminary and final grinding of cam. Third grinding wheel is also used. Diameter of third grinding wheel corresponds to approximately double radius of profile concave section, and its width is smaller then cam width. Third grinding wheel is used for preliminary grinding of concave sides, with cam being immovable, by longitudinal feed of grinding wheel for formation of modified intermediate profile. Grinding spindles of first and second wheels are positioned at angle or in parallel to each other in grinding wheel head. Third grinding wheel is mounted on spindle of second grinding wheel for final grinding. In this case, grinding wheel head which carries grinding wheels is mounted for turning about axis passing in transverse direction with respect to camshaft. EFFECT: optimal loads and cooling. 4 cl, 6 dwg
