FIELD: inorganic coatings. SUBSTANCE: coating is applied on moving substrate by way of displacing substrate relative to coating zone that is located transversely with respect to substrate travel. Vaporous coating composition is directed toward substrate and vapors are withdrawn into several withdrawal zones. These zone are located at different distances from coating zone and/or withdrawal velocities are different. Substrate contains transparent basis and amorphous coating consisting of one or several mixed metal oxides and up to 15 at.% of element (phosphorus, aluminum, or boron) dispersed therein. Vaporous coating composition contains oxygen-containing gas and from 0.0001 to 5 mol.% of silicon-containing precursor with formula R2R3R4SiOR1. EFFECT: enabled applying thick coatings. 30 cl, 6 dwg, 5 tbl
