METHOD OF ATTACHING ELASTIC COATING TO METAL SURFACES Russian patent published in 2000 - IPC

FIELD: elastic coatings. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in shipbuilding, machinery construction, construction, etc. and is designed for attaching elastic coatings, chiefly compacted rubber plates 40 to 80 mm thick to metal surfaces, including curvilinear ones. Method includes applying adhesive material, aging, and overlaying elastic coating assisted by imposing pressing from center to periphery followed by hardening adhesive. According to invention, prior to applying adhesive material, metal surface is mechanically treated and mounting surface of elastic coating plates is submitted to radiochemical and chemical modification, adhesive material containing epoxydiane resin is applied on both surfaces to be glued. When adhesive is hardened, ends of plates are smoothed out and clearance between ends of plates is filled with urethane-based sealing composition. Method enables improving quality of attachment of coating, obtaining uniform characteristics all around the surface of coating, including joining surfaces, ensuring invariability of properties in final coating which otherwise would be caused by treatment required to attach coating and also when forming coating from structurally nonuniform plates.
