FIELD: methods of producing foundry pig iron. SUBSTANCE: foundry pig iron is produced in submerged-arc electric furnaces from iron and steel scrap. In the course of production, slag is formed in very small quantities or without slat at all. Iron or steel scrap is supplied to submerged-arc electric furnace together with source of silicon dioxide and carbon-containing reducing agent. Iron and steel scrap is melted with simultaneous melting of silicon dioxide in presence of carbon-containing reducing agent. Source of silicon dioxide and carbon-containing reducing agent are added in amounts required for selected control of content of silicon and carbon in produced foundry pig iron. Content of silicon in pig iron shall be from 0.05 to 9.5 wt.%, and content of carbon, from 0.01 to 4.5 wt.%. EFFECT: possibility of utilization of available and inexpensive raw material for production of foundry iron in submerged-arc electric furnaces. 34 cl, 1 dwg, 4 tbl, 15 ex
